Statistician’s Notes

With the new database, I need independent checking of my results. If you question my results; please call. The chances of me having an error are not small. If you have a doubt, don’t assume I am correct.

Please! Please! Please!

Use the same name for your dog at every pull. I did not notice or draw a connection between Buddy Bear and Bear; but did notice when Dean Witter was called Dean (I hope I assumed right).

On entering a dog, I type in the first few characters, then pull up an alphabetical list of dogs and owners from that point on. If Prince Apollo were to be entered as Apollo; I would probably enter a new dog; as Prince Apollo would be a few hundred dogs down the list.

Thanks to the organizers for the great effort at noting the owner of a dog when someone else is handling. It has helped a lot.

Want to correct your dog’s name (or yours) without calling me. At the next pull, have the organizer make a note on the pull sheet that this is the preferred spelling or name variant; then use that on all future pulls. Terry Reed came up with this idea in communicating Mamote’s name. Note: your name came from the membership.

Errors and Corrections on My End

It has been brought to my attention that I have an error in the calculation of the points. I have been adding the ˝ point for being last only to dogs that placed 4th or later. I should be able to have this corrected for the March newsletter.

A Tie: I’ve anticipated this; but did not prepare for it. Pull 20 has the top two dogs in the 80 pound class coming in with equal weight and time. The board will have to give some direction on how to handle this and I will have to change the point algorithm. And this needs to be done for any number of dogs reaching a tie at any rank.

Requested Changes

Deborah Sien of region 5 requested I correct her name spelling from Sein (my entry error – membership was correct). Also, her dog Buddy Bear was entered as Bear at another pull. The two dogs have been merged into Buddy Bear.

Mamute owned by Dick Nichols in region 9. Changed to Mamote via request through the organizers pull report sheets.

E R R O R S

Pull 20, Camano Island WA

Jan Cook was listed as region 8. Should be 9 as she is out of Greeley, CO (if the same Jan Cook with Samoyed, Chief).

Pull 21, Camano Island WA

Jan Cook was listed as region 2. Should be 9 as she is out of Greeley, CO (if the same Jan Cook with Samoyed, Chief).

Pull 24, Yelm, WA

Brooks was listed as pulling 628 pounds, obviously not within the increments. I will get with the organizer and print a correction next month.

Pull 25, Yelm, WA

The unlimited class (4 dogs) had the dog’s weight listed instead of the weight pulled. I put in dummy weights for the time being to keep the same lineup. I will get with the organizer and publish the right values next month.

And, all dogs were listed as region 2; but six of them were provisional.

Name Assumptions

For the following entries, the name spelling (bold) used is that in the database. Listed is the pull number and how the name was spelled on the pull sheet (underlined).

Kiauna – pulls 18 & 19, Greeley,. Kianna

Yakima Chief – pull 20, Camano, Yakima Cheif (new dog and assumed proper spelling of chief)

Larry Brillhart – pull 26, Corapeak, Larry Brill with dog Toy.

MEMBERSHIP ISSUES

Instead of just assuming memberships, I am carrying this as a reminder that we have some issues to resolve. If you are on this as a "membership not assumed", besides not acquiring pull points, you are probably not getting the newsletter either

Memberships Not Assumed

The following were marked as members on the organizer's report. Membership has no record and the individuals are assumed Provisional until confirmation. Their pulls will become valid if membership records their join date as on or before the pulls in question.
