Pull Location Migration

The following map shows pull locations for the 1994/1995 pull season (red, pink, white circles), and for the 1999/2000 season (green circles).  [See the legend at right]  This map is intended to illustrate how dispersed the pulls are, and show that regions die and others are born.

A few years prior to 1993, there were no pulls in California.  A few years later, the Southern/Central California pulls died off, but Northern California started activity for about four years, then suddenly died.

The Pacific Northwest had a large dispersal of pulls, and is now narrowed to just a few places.  And prior to 1993, we had many pulls around Portland, Northern Oregon, and Southern Washington; mostly due to one organizer.

Note how Colorado was more dispersed, and now they are concentrated into one area.

Minnesota had several single events spread across the state, and now that is gone.  And, Missouri no longer has activity.

Michigan has continually had pulls, but they have moved around over time.

And; now look at the wide dispersal of pulls on the East coast, and into Ohio, WV, Ontario.  This has been the latest hot spot that has grown over the past three years.

We need pull organizers!!

Especially, if there are no pulls in your area, consider taking the initiative to getting pulls started.  Look to your local dog clubs to get a pool of talent that can assemble equipment and the manpower to conduct a pull.  IWPA will lend any help we can to muster assistance on getting you started.  Even if you have pulls in your area; consider becoming an organizer. Many areas have only one organizer; and when they get tired and quit, so do the pulls.
